Thanks for the visit! :)

Always remember where you came from, how far you have come and what you have accomplished!  What started as a quest to lose weight and get in shape turned into a full fledged attempt to get what many have called the “black belt of kettlebell certifications”!  I recently trained and passed the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC)  and am teaching classes at SG Human Performance!  Read more about my story below!

I didn’t stumble into the health and fitness world in a traditional way.  I was never raised to be active or watch what I eat.  I don’t have a degree in Kinesiology or Exercise Science or Nutrition, although all of those things interest me very much.  By day, I am a Early Childhood Special Education teacher who adores little children and helping build the capacities of families who are struggling to find the best way to meet the needs of their child.  By night, I instruct kettlebell classes as a RKC!

What I also have is a background that allows me to relate to most Americans, especially women.  I have struggled with my weight for most of my child and adult life.  Due to my history with unhealthy eating habits, I was the typical yo-yo dieter.  I had suffered through some pretty rocky self esteem issues and was the queen of put-downs and sabotaging thoughts.  Due to a lifetime of criticism and being made fun of, I began to put myself down at every opportunity.  I was convinced that I needed to verbally berate myself in order to beat everyone to the punch.  Every diet failure brought new lows as far as self confidence was concerned.  I have read what seems like every new diet out there, being unable to stick to just one and let it work for me.  Lastly, when I got the nerve to step foot in the gym, I was consistently let down by personal trainers who failed to understand what I wanted and who didn’t value the story and baggage I brought with me.

I’m still working on the weightloss; changing my diet and correcting my emotional ties to food has been a slow journey.  On the fitness front, I did my research and found the most incredible trainers that I wouldn’t let go for the world.  I have been training with Mark and Nikki at sghumanperformance.com through use of kettlebells, TRX, and body weight exercises since May of 2010. They have been amazing and have built my capacity to the max…to the point where I’ve trained and became a certified kettlebell instructor in order to pay it forward!  If you’d like to see my testimonial for their program, click HERE.

It may be worth mentioning that I just had my first child (March 2012) and am currently working on my goals related to post baby weight loss and regaining my strength!  I hope my story is something many of you will be able to identify with.  As an instructor, I will first and foremost, listen to my clients and their wants/needs!  More than likely, I have walked in your shoes and can identify with your struggles.
